Jul 1, 2024 | 6:00 AM

CHILLIWACK — Abbotsford is set to host a series of community events this Canada Day, providing a full day of festivities for residents and visitors.

The July 1 celebrations will kick off with a lively parade along South Fraser Way. The parade will begin at 11 a.m., starting from Bourquin Crescent, proceeding along Trethewey Street, and concluding at W.J. Mouat Secondary School on Mouat Drive.

To ensure the smooth operation of the parade, road closures in the staging area will begin at 6:00 a.m. All other roads noted on the parade map will be closed to traffic from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes due to the significant crowds and street closures during these times.

Following the parade, the Canada Day Family Festival will take place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Abbotsford Exhibition Park. The family-friendly event will feature an Activity Zone, a Mini Car Show, and Mini Golf, providing entertainment for attendees of all ages.

Simultaneously, the Greater Vancouver Food Truck Festival will bring a diverse array of multicultural-themed food trucks to Abbotsford Exhibition Park from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Festival-goers can enjoy a wide variety of culinary delights throughout the day.

The Canada Day Main Stage, curated by the Abbotsford Arts Council, will offer continuous entertainment from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Abbotsford Exhibition Park. The stage will showcase performances by local musicians, dancers, and cultural acts, celebrating the rich cultural diversity of the community.

The day’s festivities will culminate in a spectacular fireworks display at 10:00 p.m. To ensure safety and optimal viewing, Maclure Road will be closed from Trethewey Street to Gladwin Road from 8:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.
