Husband pleads guilty in 2021 Langley homicide
LANGLEY — Obnes Regis, the husband of Naomi Onotera, pleaded guilty to charges of manslaughter and indignity to human remains on Friday (May 31) according to a news release from the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT). The plea comes nearly three years after Onotera was reported missing from her Langley home on August 29, 2021.
Initially led by the Langley RCMP as a missing person investigation, the case was handed over to the IHIT when evidence suggested foul play. IHIT, utilizing several specialized units from the BC RCMP, conducted a thorough investigation over three months.
The investigation culminated on December 17, 2021, with the arrest of 49-year-old Regis. He was subsequently charged with manslaughter and indignity to human remains.
On May 31, 2024, Regis appeared in court and entered a guilty plea to both charges. Sentencing is scheduled for June 2024.
