MISSION — The City of Mission and the union representing career firefighters with Mission Fire Rescue Service have come to terms on a three-year labour pact.

According to a statement from the City of Mission and the International Association of Firefighters Local 4768, the 3-year deal takes effect from January 1, 2024 through to December 31, 2026.

The agreement, which was duly ratified by the IAFF on May 16, 2024 and by City of Mission council on May 21, 2024, included modest increases to benefits and the following key components:

General wage increases of:

  • 4.5% effective the first pay period for 2024
  • 5% effective the first pay period for 2025
  • 4.5% effective the first pay period for 2026

A cost of living adjustment of 1% as of January 1, 2023 also takes effect.

In a joint statement, the City of Mission and the IAFF say they collaborated together to achieve an agreement that will ensure the continued delivery of services fromMission Fire Rescue Service for the diverse and growing community of over 42,000 residents.

“The Mission Professional Fire Fighters’ Association, IAFF Local 4768, is proud of the collaborative approach taken with the City of Mission to renew a collective agreement that values the important work Local 4768 members do in the community,” said Dave Taylor, IAFF 4768 president. “A healthy and long career in service to residents of Mission is what this renewed agreement supports.”

“Mission is fortunate to have a team of highly dedicated and innovative firefighters,” said Mayor Paul Horn. “Their work has consistently become more difficult as we deal with issues such as climate change and the toxic drug supply. As we grow, we need MFRS to grow along with us, so it was essential that we achieve this agreement and maintain our constructive labour relations. I am especially happy to see that the agreement is for three years and that it includes measures to improve the welfare of our MFRS team.”
