PRINCE GEORGE — The University of Northern British Columbia in Prince George announced this week that 6-foot-9 center Miller Davies from Chilliwack will play for the Timberwolves this fall.

UNBC head coach Todd Jordan made the announcement Tuesday morning (May 21) as the Timberwolves work to solidify their 2024-25 roster.

Davies, who will graduate from Chilliwack Secondary next month, is an honour roll student who averaged 25 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks per game for the Chilliwack Secondary Storm. He was named MVP at four different senior tournaments last season. Despite not starting to play the game until three years ago, the coaching tandem of Chris Reilly and Brandt Davies have enabled Davies to gear up for the next chapter of his basketball career.

“I decided to commit to UNBC because of the amazing facilities they have up there, the amazing coaching staff, and they have a great business program that I want to attend,” said Davies, who attended the TWolves Spring ID Camp back in April and chose to commit at the conclusion of that weekend.

Immediately, Davies’ size and work ethic resonated with head coach Todd Jordan.

“Miller is a really good guy and a great student. You don’t have 6’9″ bodies walk through the door every day, and I was impressed with some of his raw physical tools,” noted Coach Jordan. “He has good hands and moves well for a young, big guy. If Miller works hard over the next couple of years, I believe he has a shot at becoming a very good player in the long run. He knows he needs to get in the weight room and get stronger, and I am excited to help him build his footwork, skills, and overall game. We are proud of some of the development we’ve had with our big guys over the years, and I’m looking forward to helping Miller on his journey.”

UNBC says Davies’ greatest strengths on the court are his strength around the rim and his mid-range shooting. He’s already hard at work in the gym, preparing himself for the transition to Canada West.

Davies said, “I’ve been in the weight room a lot. I’m looking forward to facing the bigger guys, the heightened skill level of Canada West and the extra level of competitiveness.”

Off the court, Davies plans to study business commerce with the intent of earning a Bachelor of Finance. He’s earned a spot on the honour roll in each of the past four years, and spends his down time coaching axe throwing, and helping out at the Salvation Army food kitchen, Rotary Club book sales and representing the Rotary Leaders of Tomorrow.

“UNBC Athletics is thrilled to welcome Miller Davies to the UNBC Timberwolves family,” UBC said in a news release.
