Man trying to flee Canada arrested on child porn charges in Chilliwack: RCMP
CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack RCMP says a man who was trying to elude authorities and flee Canada on a national warrant for child pornography offences in Alberta has been arrested in Chilliwack.
According to a statement from police spokesperson Corporal Carmen Kiener, Chilliwack RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit received an urgent call on Thursday, April 25 from the Grande Prairie RCMP’s Special Investigations Unit requesting help in locating and apprehending a male. This unidentified male was wanted on a Canada-wide arrest warrant for child pornography offences in Alberta. He had recently arrived in Chilliwack and was attempting to flee the country.
The Chilliwack RCMP, including members of the Serious Crime Unit, the General Investigations Support Team, and the Crime Reduction Unit, subsequently responded to downtown Chilliwack where the male was reportedly located. Within a short period of time, police say the man was located and arrested without incident. Police did not indicate when the arrest occurred.
The individual is currently being held in custody and will be returned to Alberta to answer to the charges against him, Cpl. Kiener said. Due to the nature of the investigation, the identity of the male cannot be released or revealed to the public at this time.
