Update: London Drugs store in Chilliwack remains closed Monday due to ‘cybersecurity incident’

Apr 28, 2024 | 4:28 PM

**Update at 10:30 a.m.: The Chilliwack London Drugs inside Cottonwood Centre mall remains closed Monday morning with very limited services. Pharmacists can refill prescriptions. Patrons can also pay using cash at the Canada Post location inside the store if they require postal services.

London Drugs released a statement mid-morning Monday: “On April 28, 2024, London Drugs discovered that it was the victim of a cybersecurity incident. Out of an abundance of caution, London Drugs is temporarily closing stores across Western Canada until further notice. Upon discovering the incident, London Drugs immediately undertook countermeasures to protect its network and data, including retaining leading third-party cybersecurity experts to assist with containment, remediation and to conduct a forensic investigation,” London Drugs said.

The company says it has no reason to believe that customer or employee data has been impacted. Pharmacists are standing by to support any customers with urgent pharmacy needs.
“We advise customers to phone their local store’s pharmacy to make arrangements. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and we want to assure you that this incident is the utmost priority for us at London Drugs. Thank you for your patience,” London Drugs said in a statement posted on Facebook.

Original story from Sunday afternoon, April 28 below:

CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack’s only London Drugs location at the Cottonwood Centre mall closed Sunday (Apr. 28) after the drug store chain cited an operational issue.

In a brief statement posted to Facebook at 11:36 a.m. Sunday morning, the company said it had experienced an operational issue that resulted in the closure of its stores across Western Canada until further notice.

“Pharmacists are standing by to support any customers with urgent pharmacy needs,” London Drugs wrote on Facebook. “We advise customers to phone their local store’s pharmacy to make arrangements.”

The company said an update would be provided as soon as possible, and thanked customers for their patience.

Fraser Valley Today visited the London Drugs location at the Cottonwood mall at 2:46 p.m. Sunday and saw the storefront’s security gates completely shuttered. A male employee was posted outside the store Sunday afternoon, speaking to a retail patron.

A sign posted outside the Chilliwack London Drugs repeated much of the same information as its Facebook message, asking customers to call 604-858-8347 for assistance.
