Highway closure through Fraser Canyon on Monday

CHILLIWACK — The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure is reminding residents of a major road closure Monday through the Fraser Canyon.

Highway 1 will be closed Monday (Apr. 29) from 7 a.m. until Tuesday, April 30, at 7 a.m. The closure will allow crews to lift a new permanent bridge and slide it into place over Falls Creek in the Jackass Mountain area.

The highway was closed because of the damage caused by an atmospheric river event that swept through the region in November 2021. The road was reopened weeks later with a temporary one-lane bridge.

Drivers can detour around the 24-hour closure by taking Highway 5 as an alternative route.
