MISSION — A two-vehicle collision near Hatzic last weekend sent two people to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A news release from Mission RCMP says the crash occurred on April 21 at 10:45 p.m. when a motorhome collided with a pickup truck on the Lougheed Highway, just east of Coleman Road.

Police say the motorhome was traveling east on the Lougheed Highway when it veered off the road, prompting the driver to over-correct. The erratic maneuver sent the motorhome into the path of a westbound pickup truck. The truck was struck by the motorhome and sent into a utility pole before careening down an embankment adjacent to train tracks.

The situation could have been worse as a train was approaching the area when the crash occurred. Police credit the swift response of witnesses, police, train dispatchers, and the train engineer for preventing further damage, as the train was able to stop just metres from the wreckage.
