CHILLIWACK — Hayden Stavroff had a goal and one assist to lead the Alberni Valley Bulldogs to a 3 – 1 win over the Chilliwack Chiefs in the opening game of the second-round playoff series between the two clubs.

Stavroff opened the scoring in the first period with his sixth goal of the postseason. He then set up Ryan Buckley early in the third period with the insurance marker. Matt Kursonis also scored for the Bulldogs while Grayson Badger had three assists.

Caleb Elfering scored the Chiefs only goal of the game in the first period to send the game to the first intermission tied at one.

Austin McNicholas stopped 24 of 27 shots in the Chiefs net while Callum Tung faced 30 Chilliwack shots.

The loss is the first of the postseason for the Chiefs, who swept their first-round series with Langley and then faced a ten-day layoff before the start of the second round. The Bulldogs survived a seven-game series with Coquitlam that ended Tuesday.

Game two in the best-of-seven series is set for Saturday (Apr. 20) at 7 p.m. in Chilliwack. The series will move to Vancouver Island for games three and four.
