Urgent and Primary Care Centre opens in Chilliwack

Apr 19, 2024 | 3:42 PM

CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack residents will experience an enhancement in healthcare accessibility with the official opening of a new Urgent and Primary Care Centre (UPCC). The UPCC is meant to provide team-based care during evenings and weekends.

In a news release, Adrian Dix, Minister of Health, says it is important for the region to have primary care availability beyond traditional hours. “It is vitally important that people have access to primary care in the evening and weekend hours, as not everyone is able to leave work, school or other priorities during the day.”

The UPCC replaces the Primary Care Centre (PCC) at 7955 Evans Road and will operate seven days a week, offering services from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends and statutory holidays.

According to Fraser Health, the UPCC provides same-day urgent care services for people who need support for their health concerns within 12 to 24 hours but do not require an emergency department. Conditions such as sprains, cuts, high fevers and minor infections are appropriate for the UPCC. Unlike the PCC, the UPCC is available to people who do not have a primary-care provider, as well as people with a provider who are unable to schedule an appointment within 12 to 24 hours.
