MISSION — Mission RCMP are continuing to investigate a crash involving a school bus Wednesday east of Mission. Investigators are asking the public to come forward with any information they may have on the case.

The two-vehicle crash between a school bus and a pickup truck occurred along the Lougheed Highway near Johnson Road east of Mission in Deroche.

Just two students and the driver were in the bus when the pickup truck veered into the path of the school bus. The driver of the bus took evasive manoeuvres but couldn’t steer clear of the truck. The two students escaped the crash unharmed while the driver sustained minor injuries. The driver of the pickup suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, requiring airlifting to hospital.

Impairment is not believed to have played a role in the collision, though the investigation into its cause is ongoing. A member of the RCMP’s Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service joined the effort to piece together the events leading up to the crash. The crash closed the highway until late Wednesday night.
