Highway 1 through the Fraser Canyon set for closures
LYTTON — Efforts to restore reliable travel through the Fraser Canyon are underway as work progresses to permanently repair the damage caused by an atmospheric river event in the fall of 2021. Work over the coming weeks will result in two full closures of Highway 1.
On Tuesday, April 23, 2024, from 4:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m., Highway 1 will be closed at Tank Hill, approximately 14 kilometres east of Lytton. This closure is necessary for the CP Rail workers to realign the railway track crossing the highway.
On Monday, April 29, from 7 a.m., a 24-hour closure will occur at Falls Creek (Jackass Mountain). Workers will be installing a new permanent bridge.
Emergency services have coordinated arrangements to ensure access through the sites during the closures. Motorists traveling between the Interior and Lower Mainland are advised to utilize Highway 3 or Highway 5 as alternative routes.
