Volunteers invited to take part in spring cleanup this Saturday in Chilliwack

CHILLIWACK — Since 2002, the City of Chilliwack says Adopt-a-River cleanup events have collected over 115 tonnes of waste from the Vedder/Chilliwack River shoreline.

Chilliwack-area residents will get their chance to help keep area rivers, waterways, and other public areas looking good with a spring cleanup happening this Saturday, April 20.

Registration for the spring cleanup goes from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Thompson Regional Park, 48600 Chilliwack Lake Road. Participants are asked to return all garbage back at the park by 1:30 p.m.

The city of Chilliwack has partnered with the Chilliwack/Vedder River Cleanup Society (CVRCS) and the Fraser Valley Regional District for the Adopt-a-River program, aimed at improving the environment of the Vedder/Chilliwack River through organized, regular cleanup events. Cleanup events are routinely held every April and September. Events are typically held every April and September.

Residents that pre-register for this Saturday’s cleanup in Chilliwack will receive an additional raffle ticket for prizes. Participants are asked to email their name, phone number and emergency contact name and phone number at info@cleanrivers.ca to pre-register no later than Friday, April 19.

The Chilliwack/Vedder River Cleanup Society (CVRCS) is also looking for people who want to tackle some challenging terrain and have 4 x 4 vehicles. If this is you, please email them at info@cleanrivers.ca.

Garbage and recycling bags as well as gloves will be provided and the volunteers will provide the ‘boots on the ground’. This event happens rain or shine.
