Abbotsford looking for public input to build a Commercial Truck Parking Strategy
ABBOTSFORD — The City of Abbotsford is rallying stakeholders to collaborate on the development of a comprehensive Commercial Truck Parking Strategy. The initiative, a part of the Council Strategic Plan, aims to tackle the pressing demand for overnight commercial truck parking within the city.
City staff have launched a three-stage strategy process to address the issue. The strategy involves examining best practices for truck parking across North America, engaging with key stakeholders to glean industry perspectives, and producing solutions to meet the needs of the commercial trucking sector.
According to a city staff report, commercial trucking has grown significantly in the last decade in British Columbia and the Fraser Valley. Provincewide, employment in the transportation and warehousing industry increased from 118,000 to 142,000 workers between 2000 and 2022. During the same period, the GDP of transportation and warehousing in B.C. grew from $9 billion to $13.4 billion.
To gather community input, the City of Abbotsford will host two open houses inviting public participation to discuss potential solutions. These sessions will provide an opportunity for residents, businesses, and industry representatives to voice their opinions and contribute ideas.
