Vehicle crashes into a ditch on Highway 1 Wednesday night; 3rd vehicle crash in a ditch in 3 days in Chilliwack

CHILLIWACK — Multiple first responders were dispatched Wednesday night (Apr. 10) to Highway 1 after a vehicle wound up in a ditch just west of the Yale Road West overpass (exit 109).

According to scanner traffic, Chilliwack Fire, B.C. Ambulance Service and police were dispatched at approximately 9:41 p.m. Wednesday night to the shoulder lane of westbound Highway 1 in Chilliwack for the report of a rollover.

The accident snarled westbound Highway 1 traffic for a bit. Weather was not a factor in the crash as the roads were dry and there was no precipitation at the time of the incident.

B.C. Ambulance confirmed that it dispatched personnel for the vehicle crash.

“BC Emergency Health Services received a call at 9:39 p.m. tonight (April 10, 2024) about a motor vehicle incident at the Trans-Canada Highway and Yale Road offramp in Chilliwack,” said Jenny Peng, spokesperson for the Provincial Health Services Authority. “Two ambulances attended the scene. No patient was transported to hospital.”

Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Corporal Carmen Kiener confirmed there was no fatality associated with the crash.

The vehicle, which resembled a four-door newer model sedan, appeared to have body damage on the rear left trunk area.

The incident marked the third time in less than a week that Chilliwack-area first responders have been dispatched for vehicles that crashed into a ditch.

On Tuesday morning, a commercial truck carrying live chickens crashed in a ditch and wound up on its side just off Upper Prairie Road north of Chilliwack Central Road. Paramedics responded to the scene as did BC Hydro, CN Rail, Chilliwack RCMP and Chilliwack Fire.

On Monday morning, two Chevrolet pickup trucks crashed into a ditch at Hopedale Road and Adams Road. Two individuals were injured as a result of the vehicle incident.
