ABBOTSFORD — The Abbotsford Police Department says its Gang Crime Unit (GCU) will begin attending local businesses and establishments in Abbotsford to reinforce public safety and help prevent any potential for violence directed at patrons and staff.

According to a news release from Constable Art Stele, spokesperson for the AbbyPD, the GCU will commence visits to businesses to seek out lawful contacts and undertake proactive measures to ensure bars and restaurants remain a safe place for customers.

“Enforcement will be focused on addressing persons who attend local establishments and are identified as being involved in the ongoing brutal and deadly B.C. gang conflict whose presence invokes an increased safety risk not only for patrons but also for staff and the public at large,” Cst. Stele said in a statement.

Officers will also be increasing identification checks to ensure underage consumption of alcohol is being focused upon during the visits.
