Daytime cougar sighting in Promontory Heights prompts advisory

CHILLIWACK — WildSafeBC Fraser Valley says it has been notified of a cougar sighting in daylight in the Promontory Heights area of Chilliwack, prompting the organization to issue a public advisory through social media.

According to a social media post dated Tuesday, April 9 at 2:44 p.m., the non-profit organization says Promontory Heights Elementary School staff and the B.C. Conservation Officer Service are both aware of the daytime cougar sighting and are monitoring the situation.

“This area is considered cougar habitat but sightings during the day are more unusual and can cause a disturbance for the community,” WildSafeBC Fraser Valley wrote on Facebook.

One person on Facebook said there was a sighting in the Apple Creek strata complex, located at 46360 Valleyview Road in Promontory.
