CHILLIWACK — One person was sent to hospital after a fire struck a home in the 45000 block of Wellington Avenue in Chilliwack early Saturday (Mar. 23) morning.

15 firefighters from Fire Halls 1 and 4 were called out by the alarm at 12:30 a.m. They arrived to find the two occupants of the detached home had escaped the fire. Although smoke was coming from the front door of the home, one of the occupants was largely successful in knocking down the fire with an extinguisher.

Paramedics from the BC Emergency Health Services treated the two individuals at the scene and then took one to hospital with minor injuries.

Fire crews were able to knock out the remaining flames in the house quickly and then set up fans to clear smoke from the house. Emergency Support Services are helping to support the two occupants of the home.
