YOUR PERSPECTIVE: British Columbians need relief from soaring gas prices
Over the last seven years, the cost of living in British Columbia has been skyrocketing under the NDP, pushing families to the brink. From housing to groceries, every expense has become a significant burden that weighs heavily on the minds of British Columbians every day. Despite the need for help, the current NDP government continues to implement harmful policies that only deepen the cost of living crisis.
A recurring concern I hear from constituents and people across the province is the consistently high cost of gas in B.C. This issue is particularly critical for commuters and families reliant on vehicles for daily transportation to work and school, and those who live in areas lacking accessible and available public transportation. The rising gas prices have become a significant strain for families, especially those who are struggling to put food on their tables.
Under the NDP’s watch, gas prices have spiralled out of control, leaving British Columbia with the highest gas prices in North America. While our neighbours in Calgary and Edmonton enjoy significantly cheaper prices, British Columbians are shouldering this financial load. The simple act of commuting has become an overwhelming financial ordeal for many.
Despite the glaring issue of affordability, the NDP is set to further exacerbate the situation with a 23 percent increase in the provincial carbon tax on April 1, 2024. This move will further burden already high gas prices, impacting everyday activities such as grocery shopping and commuting.
