VANCOUVER — Heavy wind that downed trees and took out power to thousands of people in the Lower Mainland and Sunshine Coast is expected to continue for Sunday morning.

At its peak Saturday afternoon, BC Hydro reported that 13 thousand homes were without power in the Lower Mainland and Sunshine Coast. According to the BC Hydro Outage map, no major outages were reported east of Langley.

Weather warnings from Environment Canada say that strong winds that started yesterday could hit up to 100 km/h in the Sunshine Coast and on parts of Vancouver Island. The warning does not apply to areas east of Langley.

A similar warning for Metro Vancouver says winds of 70 gusting to 90 km/h an hour are expected to ease sometime Sunday morning.
