MISSION — Despite poor road conditions and downed BC Hydro power lines, Mission Fire Rescue Service still managed to contain a fire that burned a detached garage and multiple cars early Wednesday morning (Feb. 28)

According to a social media post from the agency, Mission firefighters were dispatched to a garage fire on Ainsworth Road shortly before 2 a.m. Mission fire personnel say poor road conditions due to snow slowed their initial response. Once crews arrived on scene, they witnessed a detached garage and “multiple vehicles” on fire. The main house was partially exposed to the flames.

“A big thank you to public works for getting a plow truck to the scene quickly to assist with clearing the snow from the main roads for the apparatus,” said Asst. Chief Nick Rychkun.

Firefighters had to grapple with downed power lines. However, crews mounted an aggressive fire attack from a distance and were able to protect the house and limit fire spread. Once BC Hydro arrived, firefighters quickly knocked down the remaining fire.
