Hope Fire, RCMP respond to suspicious vehicle fire on Highway 3 early Thursday

HOPE — The Hope Fire Department responded early Thursday morning (Feb. 29) to what authorities are calling a suspicious fire on Highway 3 east of Hope.

According to a statement from Hope Fire Chief Thomas Cameron, Hope firefighters were dispatched for the report of a tent fire on Highway 3 near exit 173 at approximately 2 a.m. When fire personnel arrived, they discovered a fully engulfed vehicle fire spreading to a nearby tree with two more RVs at risk nearby.

Six firefighters attended the scene for approximately 90 minutes. No injuries were reported.

The cause remains unknown and is being investigated as a suspicious fire, Chief Cameron said.
