CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack Mounties are investigating the discovery of a body Saturday.

According to an emailed statement on Sunday, February 18 from Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Corporal Carmen Kiener, Mounties in Chilliwack responded to a report of a deceased male in a drainage ditch on Chilliwack Central Road Saturday.

Cpl. Kiener said police are working in partnership with the B.C. Coroners Service to identify the male and conduct an investigation to determine the cause of death.

“There is no threat to the public and this is believed to be an isolated incident,” Cpl. Kiener said.

RCMP blocked Chilliwack Central Road between Broadway and Prest Road for several hours Saturday. The road eventually reopened Saturday afternoon.

A Chilliwack resident on Prest Road said police visited her home Saturday morning seeking any possible video surveillance.

“They came by around 11 a.m., and we live on Prest Road just up from the Chilliwack Central Road roundabout,” the resident told Fraser Valley Today. “Unfortunately, they did not give my husband any details [about the incident].”

Police did not release any further details on the approximate age of the deceased male.
