CHILLIWACK — The Chilliwack Chiefs scored three goals in the first five minutes of the game and cruised to a 5 – 2 victory over the Powell River Kings Saturday at the Chilliwack Coliseum.

Parker Murray scored 98 seconds into the game. Then Jordan Geike added another 66 seconds later and finally Mateo Mrsic scored the third goal at the five-minute mark.

Powell River fought back with a goal in the second period and another in the third to make things interesting, however Chilliwack’s Nathan Morin and Harrison Boldt put the game out of reach with goals in the final ten minutes of the third period. Boldt’s was an empty netter.

Recently acquired Frank Murphy faced 27 shots in the Chiefs net to pick up his first win while Vincent Lamberti faced 33 pucks from Chilliwack shooters.

The victory moved the Chiefs into sole possession of second place in the BCHL Coastal Division standings. They are two points ahead of Alberni Valley and three points ahead of the Nanaimo Clippers. The Bulldogs and the Clippers have one game in hand on the Chiefs.

The Chiefs wind up their Family Day weekend with a Monday matinee contest against Cowichan Valley. Monday’s game begins at 2 p.m. at the Chilliwack Coliseum.
