CHILLIWACK — Mounties in Chilliwack say a 33-year-old man has been arrested and charged with several offences for his alleged role in a shooting in downtown Chilliwack last Sunday morning, February 4.

According to a news release from Corporal Carmen Kiener, spokesperson for the Chilliwack RCMP, police say Ryan Diablo, 33, was located in Chilliwack and arrested without incident on Wednesday, Feb. 7 in connection with a shooting in the 9300 block of Nowell Street.

Diablo has been charged with the following offences:

  • Discharge firearm with intent
  • Aggravated assault
  • Failure to comply with court order

Police say the suspect and the victim in this incident were known to each other, but there is no indication they have any ties to the Lower Mainland gang conflict.

“Multiple specialized sections assisted the Chilliwack RCMP Serious Crime Unit in tirelessly pursuing all leads and meticulously gathering evidence to advance this dynamic investigation, as well as safely taking Mr. Diablo into custody,” Cpl. Kiener said. “Another example of our unwavering commitment to public safety within our community.”

The Chilliwack RCMP would like to thank the public for their assistance in this investigation.
