ABBOTSFORD — Potential opportunities abound in the health care industry for today’s youth and students who might be interested one day in a clinical career.

Perhaps that’s the thinking behind a recent visit by a Fraser Valley Girl Guides group that set foot inside Abbotsford Regional Hospital with the help of the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation.

In a news release, the foundation says it is offering youth a unique way to be inspired with in-person learning tours at Abbotsford Regional Hospital. “Youth are the hope of our future, and if we can help coming generations understand the diversity of healthcare then we are making a positive impact in helping them explore the model of care,” said FVHCF executive director Liz Harris.

In a recent visit with a local girl guides group, activities were carried out in the Simulation (SIM) lab and X-ray department.

“These kinds of clinical experiences allow us to create a vibrant learning space [by] encouraging transformational educational experiences, vocational development, and, in turn, helping build resilient societies,” said Dr. Lakhbir Jassal, fund development coordinator for FVHCF. “Going forward, we hope to build partnerships with others to empower youth.”
