CHILLIWACK — The Chilliwack Chiefs have announced the addition of goaltender Frank Murphy to their roster for the remainder of the season.

Hailing from Mississauga, Ontario, the 2004-born Murphy previously played with the Islanders Hockey Club in the National Collegiate Development Conference (NCDC) of the USPHL this season.

Chiefs Head Coach and General Manager Brian Maloney is pleased with the signing. “Frank is joining us from the NCDC and is arguably the best goaltender in that league, and his numbers back that up. He’s excited to join us and ready for the challenge ahead.”

Standing at 6’3”, Murphy has an impressive track record with the Islanders. In 27 games, he posted a 19-5-3 record, a .933 save percentage, and had five shutouts.

“With Hockey Canada putting us in a position where we’re unable to call up or bring in young prospects to develop them, it has put us into a situation where teams in our league are carrying larger rosters,” said Maloney.

Goaltender Cole Savage left the club with just two goaltenders. “That has put us in a situation where we needed to find another goaltender to come in, not only to contribute to our victories but also to provide support to the existing goaltenders and serve as an insurance piece in case of goaltender loss,” said Maloney.

The Chiefs are back in action Friday when they travel to Langley.
