CHILLIWACK — In a proud moment for the Chilliwack Chiefs, the hockey team was recognized with the “Community Impact Award” at the recent Chilliwack Chamber Business Excellence Awards. Sponsored by Metric Civil, the award recognizes businesses that positively impact the community through meaningful interactions with partners, purposeful relationships with non-profits, and support services within Chilliwack.

Last season, the Chiefs’ players and staff contributed over 1,100 person-hours of volunteering, a trend they are maintaining this year. Team Governor and Vice-President Barry Douglas expressed the organization’s gratitude. “Although we don’t seek recognition for our efforts, this award is a genuine honour. It’s a celebration of our current and past players and their unwavering commitment.”

Chiefs players are involved in various community initiatives, including coaching Special Olympics floor hockey, participating in The Bookman’s “Read with the Chiefs” program in schools, and delivering meals for Chilliwack Community Services’ “Meals on Wheels.”

In addition to direct involvement, the Chiefs support numerous groups and organizations in the Fraser Valley through donations of tickets, merchandise, and game night experiences.

Douglas added, “there were many outstanding organizations nominated for this award. We are grateful to be part of this community and for the support throughout the years. We look forward to contributing more in the future.”

The Chilliwack Chiefs’ next home game on February 3rd at the Chilliwack Coliseum will be dedicated to “Canucks Autism Network” Night, presented by Club16 Trevor Linden Fitness. The event will feature reduced volume of music and P.A. announcements, a designated Quiet Room for those needing a sensory break, and more.
