Another retail store set to close at Cottonwood mall this week

CHILLIWACK — Fraser Valley Today has learned that yet another clothing store at Cottonwood Centre mall in Chilliwack will be closing this week.

Penningtons, which describes itself as Canada’s premiere destination for plus-size fashion with an existence spanning 70-plus years, will close this Thursday, January 25 at unit 28, 45585 Luckakuck Way.

Lushwear, a store selling women’s fashion and accessories, will be closing its mall location on Tuesday, January 23.

A female assistant manager and a female manager at Penningtons Monday morning said they weren’t authorized to speak to the media, but could only confirm that the store will close this Thursday and that they hoped Penningtons might open again in Chilliwack in the future. Beyond that, the general manager said she could not speak to how many employees worked at the store.

The inside of the store showed empty shelves and partial inventory accompanied by 20 per cent and 60 per cent off signs throughout what was left of the inventory.

A sign on the Penningtons door invites Chilliwack customers to visit them at their nearest location in Abbotsford, the West Oaks Mall located at 32700 South Fraser Way, or by shopping online 24/7 at penningtons.com.

Penningtons is one of the few Cottonwood mall stores that offers an external entrance on the south-facing entrance to shoppers, like Save-On-Foods or Freshslice Pizza. It is believed that Sephora could be replacing Penningtons at that location.
