CHILLIWACK — The Downtown Chilliwack Community Market Society (DCCM), also known as the Chilliwack Market, is making plans for what it calls a “vibrant” 22-week showcase of local food, art and handmade products ahead of the 2024 market season.

In a news release dated Tuesday, January 16, the society hopes to attract vendors and artisans alike for a season that kicks off May 26 and runs until October 20. The Chilliwack Market describes itself as a community of local growers, crafters, and gatherers that congregate every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to offer their products to the broader community.

“DCCM has quickly become Chilliwack’s most reliable source for high-quality local food, art, and hand-made products,” DCCM said in a news release. “Whether you’re a seasoned marketgoer or a first-time visitor, the Chilliwack Market opens the gateway to a world of quality food and goods that exemplify the spirit of Chilliwack.”

The DCCM, a non-profit society committed to community and food security, wants to connect local families, individuals, and seniors with healthy local food, contributing to the well-being of local farmers, the economy, and the local community. Now in its fourth year, the market has already produced over $70,000 in food security funds for Chilliwack residents in partnership with the BCAFM, Bowls of Hope Society, and the Chilliwack Métis Association, highlighting its commitment to creating a community-centric space that offers local food for the local community and develops meaningful connections.

In anticipation of market growth, the Chilliwack Market has expanded its layout to accommodate four additional vendors. DCCM says this strategic expansion is intended to offer more space, enhance the overall feel, and introduce coveted corner spots, providing vendors with a unique opportunity to showcase their products in an engaging atmosphere.

“The 2024 market season promises exciting initiatives, including weekly themed events, live local musicians, giveaways featuring vendors and local businesses, and enhanced marketing efforts to spotlight the diverse offerings of our vendors,” DCCM said.

The Chilliwack Market has put the call out for vendors who share a passion for local food security, education, accessibility, environmental stewardship, inclusion, and community. Organizers invite vendors, artisans and producers to apply for the 2024 season if their vision matches those of DCCM. To apply and showcase the unique offerings of vendors, please visit www.dccm.ca.
