Bystanders take action to save people and dog in West Kelowna
WEST KELOWNA — Some Good Samaritans helped rescue some people and their pet who went through the ice at an Okanagan park.
Fire Rescue was called to an access point for Kalamoir Regional Park in West Kelowna Saturday afternoon for two people and their dog who had broken through the ice of Okanagan Lake approximately 100 meters from shore.
“While en route to the incident, bystanders who witnessed the incident jumped into action and assisted with the extrication of the patients from the water,” Deputy chief Chad Gartrell said.
Upon arrival, fire-rescue crews moved the patients into one of their trucks to help warm them from their exposure to the elements prior to transferring them to BC Ambulance paramedics.
