MISSION — Mission Fire Rescue Service firefighters battled a house fire on New Year’s Sunday evening, limiting the fire from engulfing the entire home or spreading to neighboring homes.

Mission firefighters were dispatched for the report of a house on fire on Tuckwell Terrace, about 2-3 kilometres northeast of the Hwy. 11/7 junction, at just before 4:30 p.m. Sunday. The first fire engine on scene reported heavy smoke visible from two levels of a home. Fire personnel forced entry through the basement garage door and encountered heavy fire conditions through the basement and second floor.

Mission Fire Rescue Service says its firefighters’ offensive attack was able to prevent the fire from spreading to the basement and second floor. Mission firefighters were on scene for well over an hour before crews were cleared from the scene at approximately 7 p.m. Sunday night.

The homeowners were not home at the time, and no injuries were reported. An investigation will take place today, Tuesday, Jan. 2.
