CHILLIWACK — Whispering Horse Winery, a Yarrow-area wine producer nestled off Vedder Mountain Road within a picturesque estate just south of the Vedder River, plans to enhance its guest experience by launching the construction of a tasting room/lounge in the next week.

According to a social media post dated December 31 from the winery, Whispering Horse says it will embark on an exciting new venture in which construction of a new tasting room/lounge will begin soon. The quaint establishment describes itself on Facebook as a 100 per cent estate grown and bottled, family-run boutique winery located in Yarrow.

“For us, 2024 will bring an exciting (and slightly nerve-wracking) ‘leap’ on this wine journey of ours…with the construction of our tasting room/lounge starting next week!” Whispering Horse wrote on Facebook. “Our barn will still be used for events, but it will be so nice to have an intimate space, reflective of our wine-making philosophy, where we can sit and appreciate a view of the vines that produced all the wines being poured in your glass.”

The winery went on to add that it hopes construction goes as planned and looks forward to welcoming guests at its new tasting room before too long.

Whispering Horse Winery drew its name from the history of the land on Vedder Mountain Road where John Giesbrecht bred, raised and trained horses for over five decades. J-Bar Ranch began in 1965 when Giesbrecht built a large indoor riding arena in addition to other smaller barns and stalls on the property. He would later pivot to quarter horse racing in the late 1970s.

After Giesbrecht retired, pasture transitioned to abundant vineyards at Whispering Horse, where over 10,000 vines have taken root. The winery sought to preserve the memories and rich heritage associated with J-Bar Ranch by locating its winery within the existing walls of the former riding arena.

“This means our winery now sits atop the very place where we all spent so much time riding, keeping these memories close to our hearts as we move forward in this new endeavour,” Whispering Horse Winery wrote on its website.
