UPDATE: Highway 1 cleared at Prest Road overpass

The crash occurred Friday afternoon shortly before 4 p.m. There has been no official explanation from authorities of what exactly happened. But when the incident ended, the semi-truck and its trailer were lying on its side, stretching across lanes in both directions of the highway.

For most of Friday evening, travel in both directions of Highway 1 was forced to use detours of the exit and entrance ramps leading to and from the overpass. Crews were eventually able to open the westbound lanes late Friday evening.

It’s still not clear when eastbound lanes will open to traffic. Updates are being provided through DriveBC.
