CHILLIWACK — Details are scarce from police, but a male suspect involved in an altercation was arrested Wednesday afternoon (Dec. 20) by the Chilliwack RCMP, in an incident that may have involved a stabbing.

According to a brief statement from Corporal Carmen Kiener, spokesperson for the Chilliwack RCMP, police can only confirm an altercation occurred where one suspect was arrested and taken into custody.

The victim of the altercation was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Cpl. Kiener said.

The suspect in this matter was held in custody to appear in front of a judge on Thursday, Dec. 21.

According to a person who witnessed the event, a man allegedly caused a scene at a business on Airport Road, assaulted or stabbed someone at an Airport Road business, and was taken into custody at gunpoint by Chilliwack RCMP members in the 45000 block of Airport Road.

A second Chilliwack resident who spoke with Fraser Valley Today about the incident said the suspect who was arrested by police did not try to resist arrest when authorities took him into custody, complying with police directives to get on the ground. He reportedly utilized a weapon, but may have tossed it before being arrested by police.

The man was taken into custody at, or near, M&H Machinery at 45790 Airport Road.

Police have not confirmed these details other than to say a victim of an altercation was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, a suspect was arrested and was held in custody pending a court appearance.
