CHILLIWACK — Multiple RCMP officers converged on an area of Greendale in the Yale Road, Adams Road and Hopedale Road vicinity and blocked several streets as some type of police incident transpired Wednesday evening.

Police were said to be looking for an individual and have deployed a tactical team and police dogs for assistance, according to witnesses of the area.

Chilliwack RCMP Corporal Carmen Kiener, spokesperson for the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment, advised Fraser Valley Today in an email Thursday morning (Dec. 21) that the B.C. Coroners Service was not involved in the police incident, as some had speculated on social media.

“I can confirm there was a police incident with a heavy police presence last night on Yale Road,” Cpl. Kiener said. “It’s possible one of the police vehicles was mistaken for a Coroner vehicle as the Coroner is not engaged or required in this incident. The incident was contained by police and there is no risk to the public.”

Police did not comment on any presence of a grow op out in Greendale.

According to two Chilliwack residents who reside in Greendale, Chilliwack RCMP had blocked Yale Road between Lickman Road and Hopedale Road and were also impeding access west of South Sumas Road in Greendale past River of Life Church.

A Chilliwack resident sent Fraser Valley Today a picture of two RCMP cruisers blocking the intersection of Yale Road and Hopedale Road. Police reportedly had their long guns drawn. Police numbered at least 10, possibly more.

Witnesses wrote on social media that the Emergency Response Team had been dispatched to Chilliwack.

Adams Road was reportedly blocked completely at the west and east end as of 8:15 p.m.

Two Greendale residents said gunshots had been reported by a resident of the surrounding Greendale community at approximately 7 p.m. However, police have not confirmed this.

According to witnesses, police were reportedly checking ditches and had been scouring an area around the 43000 block of Yale Road, in addition to checking fields and even some barns.

According to another resident of Greendale, the incident may have involved two to three armed men who allegedly tried to rob a grow op on Yale Road.

Again, RCMP have not released any additional details about this incident and have not confirmed any of the aforementioned details other than to say there was a police incident, B.C. Coroners Service was not involved or engaged, the incident was contained by police and there is no further risk to the public at this time.
