Abbotsford Police report Sunday fatal shooting of man to B.C. Independent Investigations Office
ABBOTSFORD — The Abbotsford Police Department has initiated an investigation by BC’s Independent Investigations Office (IIO) following a fatal police-involved shooting that occurred in the 1700 block of Riverside Road Sunday night (Dec. 17).
In a news release, Abbotsford Police say the shooting resulted in the death of a male, while no injuries were reported among the police officers on the scene. As the Independent Investigations Office takes charge of the investigation, details surrounding the circumstances leading to the shooting are not being publically released.
The incident led to the closure of Riverside Road, between Marshall Road and King Road as investigators gathered evidence from the scene.
IIO investigations examine incidents of death or serious harm that may have been the result of the actions or inactions of a police officer, whether on or off duty.
