Erratic behaviour leads to drunk driving charges for novice driver in Mission

MISSION — A novice driver in Mission faces impaired driving charges, and the prospect of a much lighter wallet, after driving erratically through a mall parking lot while under the influence of alcohol.

According to a social media post from police, a Mission RCMP officer was monitoring traffic on Tuesday, November 28 when a vehicle with one headlight out captured the male constable’s attention. At this point, the police officer followed the vehicle, which appears to be a Toyota Corolla-looking sedan, into a nearby mall parking lot where the driver operated the vehicle inconsistently and recklessly. The driver eventually pulled into the drive-through of a fast-food doughnut establishment, but stopped an unusually long distance away from the ordering monitor.

At this point, police conducted a traffic stop and concluded the driver was showing evidence of impairment by liquor. Police say the 20-year-old driver, who had a novice driver’s license, failed not one, but two roadside screening tests and subsequently garnered a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition as well as a 30-day vehicle impound.
