CHILLIWACK — Police in Chilliwack say there’s been a noticeable uptick in the number of vehicular incidents and motor vehicle crashes over the past month, prompting a reminder from the RCMP about driving safely around town.

According to a statement from Cpl. Carmen Kiener, spokesperson for the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment, Mounties in Chilliwack say an increase in traffic incidents and collisions serves as a powerful reminder for motorists to do their part to help ensure roads are safe for everyone this Christmas holiday season.

“With the holidays soon approaching, special gatherings and busy shopping days are upon us,” Cpl. Kiener said. “Coupled with the changing weather conditions, we want to remind the public, whether you are a pedestrian, cyclist, motorist, or other type of road user, to consider the following tips for increased road safety”:

  • Make adequate time to arrive at your destination
  • Plan your route
  • Identify a designated driver
  • Leave your phone alone
  • Drive for the current road conditions
  • Utilize winter tires on your vehicle
  • Have an emergency kit in your car for extended travel
