Emil Anderson says Hwy. 1 through Fraser Canyon will be closed Monday night
FRASER CANYON — The provincial highway contractor for the eastern Fraser Valley and Highway 1 north of Hope isn’t wasting any time ahead of tonight’s weather forecast calling for significant rain in the Fraser Canyon.
According to a Facebook post from Emil Anderson Maintenance, the company tasked with maintaining eastern Fraser Valley highways, Highway 1 will be closed starting Monday night, December 4 at 7 p.m. between Blue Lake Road in Boothroyd, about 80 kilometers north of Hope, and Lytton.
EAM says an update will be provided by the Ministry of Transportation Tuesday morning, Dec. 5 at 9 a.m. The private highway contractor urges motorists to plan ahead and check www.drivebc.ca for the most up to date information.
Environment Canada has released a special weather statement for an atmospheric river today and tonight. With heavy rains, that could mean water pooling and limited visibility for motorists. EAM also says Highway 3 (Crowsnest) and Highway 5 (Coquihalla) could see mixed snow and rain. The company urges motorists to have winter tires and to not pass snow plows.
