CHILLIWACK — For several years now, Angela Bosma has been a familiar face for parents who dropped off their toddlers or preschool-aged children at Tree House Children’s Centre on Unsworth Road, across from Unsworth Elementary, in Chilliwack.

Sadly, Bosma has had to take leave from her job as manager at Tree House following a stage 4 colon cancer diagnosis that she received on November 8. Since that date, the cancer has reportedly spread, according to a GoFundMe petition launched by Patti Gerbrand.

“We come to you with heavy hearts and an urgent plea for support,” Gerbrand wrote on GoFundMe. “Our beloved Angela Bosma, a vibrant 41-year-old, was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer on November 8th. Her cancer has already spread throughout her abdomen. Since her diagnosis, Angela has faced numerous hospitalizations, and been given a terminal prognosis while navigating the challenges with remarkable strength, courage, and faith in the Lord.”

Bosma’s treatment plan entails palliative chemotherapy, which will occur every two weeks starting on Monday, December 4. There is currently cure for her barring a miracle, Gerbrand wrote, but chemo will hopefully prolong her life, according to Gerbrand’s post. The goal is for Bosma to cherish and appreciate every moment together as a family, staying in the comfort of their home while facing this incredibly difficult battle head-on.

“Angela, who was working full time just a few weeks ago, confronts unique challenges daily. A hospital bed is set to arrive at their home tomorrow, underscoring the urgency of our support to enhance her comfort during treatment. Angela, who now holds a handicap parking pass, finds walking a significant challenge and will now be relying on a wheelchair and walker to navigate her daily life,” Gerbrand wrote. “As we rally around Angela, James and the boys during this difficult time, we invite you to join us in easing the financial burden that often accompanies such a diagnosis. Your support will relieve financial stress and provide vital support for regular monthly household expenses, so this family can focus on what truly matters – spending precious time with their loved ones.”

The online fundraiser has raised $7,455 from 39 donations as of Saturday morning, December 2.

“Thank you for your generosity, compassion, and kindness,” Gerbrand wrote on GoFundMe. “Together, we can make a meaningful difference in Angela’s journey, providing comfort and creating moments that will be cherished forever.”
