City of Mission to introduce user fees for electric vehicle charging stations

Nov 26, 2023 | 6:00 AM

MISSION — In a move set to take effect on January 1, 2024, the City of Mission is implementing user fees for all City-owned and operated electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. These fees, designed to offset costs related to BC Hydro, administration, asset replacement, and network expansions, will be applicable 24/7.

The fee structure is set at $1 per hour for the first two hours, with a subsequent charge of $3 per hour for each additional hour of charging. Users will be required to pay these fees through the ChargePoint system at each station.

The City currently boasts six dual charging stations located at the Mission Leisure Centre, City Hall, Welton Street, Welton Parking Lot 1, Welton Parking Lot 2, and the RCMP Station. Plans are also underway to introduce a seventh station at the Public Works building on Dewdney Trunk Road.

Funding for the initial phase of the City’s EV charging station program was secured through participation in the provincial Climate Action Revenue Incentive Program. Over the past year, the charging stations facilitated an average of 990 charging sessions per month, indicating a growing reliance on electric vehicles within the community.
