HOPE — Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement advising motorists to be prepared for slick highway conditions for those travelling along the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Kamloops and along Highway 3 from Hope to Princeton.

It says a frontal system is expected to begin moving across the B.C. Interior Saturday (Nov. 18) night. The system will have warm air aloft and when mixed with cold air in valleys could produce localized patches of ice pellets and freezing rain. By Sunday morning, the precipitation is expected to turn into snowfall. Forecasters expect the snow to continue through Sunday until it begins to evolve into showers late in the day.

The system could impact highways through the Okanagan and the Kootenays as it passed over southern B.C.

Drivers are reminded that winter tires are required when driving along most B.C. highways from October 1 to April 30.
