SD33 students, staff hold Remembrance Day ceremonies throughout Chilliwack
CHILLIWACK — Students and staff throughout the Chilliwack School District held meaningful Remembrance Day ceremonies Thursday morning (Nov. 9) to remember the immeasurable sacrifices of Canada’s heroic veterans and brave Indigenous soldiers.
Unsworth Elementary was the site of one of many assemblies Thursday morning as principal Shawn McLeod emceed the roughly 35-minute event during which time students presented wreaths, heard what peace meant from their fellow students and watched videos paying tribute to soldiers from across Canada and their Indigenous colleagues.

Five members of the student body at Unsworth recited the iconic words from “In Flanders Fields” as a way of remembering the sacrifices of veterans long ago. Music teacher Cynthia Heisler led students in a song about building bridges and maintaining harmonious relationships.
