CHILLIWACK — The largest project in the nearly 100-year history of Chilliwack Community Services is almost finished ahead of an expected completion date in early 2024.

According to a Facebook post Tuesday (Nov. 7) from Chilliwack Community Services, the six-storey Paramount housing project in the 46100 block of Yale Road is on the verge of having its housing units ready.

“The units are so close to being finished and then we’ll be sure to share more photos with you,” Chilliwack Community Services wrote about a one-bedroom, adaptable unit on the sixth floor.

The six-storey Paramount building will provide 58 units of affordable housing for seniors and eight units to young adults, some of whom might be aging out of care. Of the 58 units, some will have deep subsidies while others will have under market rent prices.

Public-private partnerships have been instrumental in making this project possible, including assistance from companies like B.C. Housing, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, CPA Consultations, Station One Architects, Gerry Enns Construction, the City of Chilliwack, and Chilliwack Economic Partners Corporation, or CEPCO. The City of Chilliwack and CEPCO donated land and waived significant permitting fees.

In response to an online question posed by Heather Maahs about how to apply for one of the units, Chilliwack Community Services wrote on Facebook, “Applications will be going out in the next couple weeks, but anyone who is interested needs to first register through the B.C. Housing Registry to start and then we will be releasing a second application that is applicable to our community/building. Once our application is ready, we will share it on our social media accounts.”

The bottom two floors of the six-storey building will house staff from Chilliwack Community Services.
