CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack Fire Department, Chilliwack RCMP, and BC Ambulance Service were dispatched Thursday morning after a pedestrian was struck at the intersection of Princess Avenue and Nowell Street.

According to scanner traffic, authorities received a call at 9:56 a.m. about a motor vehicle incident in the 46100 block of Princess Avenue in Chilliwack.

Fraser Valley Today responded to the area and noticed an individual lying on the ground in the middle of the intersection. Approximately seven first responders surrounded the individual as the male expressed significant discomfort.

The patient was placed in the back of an ambulance at 10:11 a.m.

BC Emergency Health Services released a statement Thursday afternoon confirming paramedics were dispatched to the area of Princess and Nowell just before 10 a.m.

“BC Emergency Health Services received a call at 9:56 a.m. this morning about a motor vehicle incident in the 46100-block of Princess Avenue in Chilliwack. Two ambulances, an advanced care paramedic unit, and a supervisor responded. Paramedics cared for and transported one patient to hospital in critical condition.”

The Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment posted on X/Twitter at 12:04 p.m. Thursday that police had closed the intersection of Princess and Nowell due to a police investigation.

“The intersection of Nowell St and Princess Ave are currently closed due to an ongoing police investigation. Please avoid the area and use an alternate route,” Upper Fraser Valley RCMP wrote on Twitter.

Fraser Valley Today received a statement Thursday evening at about 6 p.m. indicating that the closure was connected to the motor vehicle incident.

“I can confirm that the road closure was due to the pedestrian being struck,” said Cpl. Carmen Kiener, media relations officer for the Chilliwack RCMP. “A male pedestrian was struck by a slow-moving vehicle and taken to hospital where he remains in serious but stable condition. The Chilliwack Traffic Unit, in consultation with the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS), is continuing to investigate this incident. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating, impairment was not a factor.”
