Abbotsford police hosting crime awareness clinics to protect seniors

ABBOTSFORD — Seniors are often targeted by criminals, looking to take advantage of a population that can be caught unaware. AbbyPD officials are hosting a seminar Friday (Oct. 20) at the Clearbook Library along George Ferguson Way, to support crime awareness for seniors.

The seminar is titled ‘Crime Prevention and Personal Safety’ and is intended for senior-aged members of the population. The seminar is free of charge and runs from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Officials say the event will discuss elder abuse, security at home, vehicle safety tips, street safety, transit safety, and general crime prevention.

It’s the first of three planned seminars directed toward Abbotsford seniors. Another seminar is planned for November on emergency kits and scooter safety. A seminar in December will focus on scams and fraud prevention.
