CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack Fire Department was dispatched for an apparent trailer fire at the Island 22 homeless encampment early Thursday morning.

According to information gathered from Chilliwack resident Julie Hiscock, who monitors overnight scanner traffic, fire personnel responded to the off-grid encampment just south of Cartmell Road, near Fairfield Island, sometime after 1:15 a.m. Thursday (October 19).

A picture taken Thursday morning at around 8 a.m., and shared by Hiscock with Fraser Valley Today, shows a trailer on the ground charred in the middle section, against a backdrop of nearby trees, with burned, darkened debris adjacent to the trailer.

Andy Brown, assistant fire chief for the Chilliwack Fire Department, confirmed in an email to Fraser Valley Today Thursday morning that crews were dispatched for a travel trailer.
