Cultus Lake gearing up for popular Christmas event on November 25; fireworks to be weather-dependent

CHILLIWACK — The embodiment of the Christmas spirit comes alive in Cultus Lake again next month.

Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus are expected to make a very special visit to Main Beach for Cultus Lake’s Christmas event on Saturday, November 25.

A community events and engagement committee from the Cultus Lake Park Board has been working behind the scenes to ensure this year’s event is similar to the 2022 iteration that saw over 1,000 people attend.

According to minutes of the committee from their meeting on Friday, September 22, at least three food trucks and two artisan vendors, possibly more, have been booked and confirmed for this year’s event.

Stillwood camp will be providing hot beverages, like hot chocolate and apple cider, for example. The committee has confirmed the use of a community member’s propane burners and pots to prepare hot beverages, at Main Beach boat rentals.

The committee has reached out to various community groups about Christmas caroling at the event.

There will be a children’s colouring contest starting November 1.

Cultus Lake Park Board staff told the committee at its meeting on Sept. 22 that fireworks could not be executed if winds exceed 30 kilometres per hour on the day of the event. Staff say they will add a note to any posters about fireworks being weather-dependent.

Parking for the event will be by donation.

At last year’s event, park board staff arranged for up to six heaters to help people keep warm.
