COLUMBIA VALLEY — The Columbia Valley Fire Department was dispatched Monday afternoon (Oct. 16) for what was believed to be a fire between Vedder Mountain in Chilliwack and the United States border.

The call came in at about 1:03 p.m. Monday, advising crews that there was some kind of fire suspected of being within either the Abbotsford Fire Rescue jurisdiction or that of Columbia Valley Fire Department, the latter of which stretches to the U.S. border.

According to scanner traffic, a caller from Coastal Fire Centre who resided on McDermott Road in Abbotsford (Sumas Prairie) advised dispatch of the possibility of a fire east of Abbotsford, but south of Vedder Mountain.

Columbia Valley Fire Dept. acknowledged the call for service at approximately 1:07 p.m.
